Spa escapes are luxurious

A great spa experience brings together the mind and body connection to alleviate stress, and relieve the illnesses and aches of everyday life.

Local options abound. A longtime luxury location is the Trellis Spa at The Houstonian

"People come to Trellis for the full experience," said Christine Whitnel, Trellis spa training manager.

The Houstonian provides an in-town escape, while Trellis provides clients with an extensive menu to get even further away from it all.

Beyond its 20 treatment rooms and Mediterranean garden atmosphere, guests can indulge in an indoor float pool.

It isn't just retail therapy that will get you looking and feeling good while shopping in the River Oaks area.

Facials of 24K gold and nail-tip treatment featuring crushed pearl powder are among the indulgences now on the menu.

Health and fitness club Equinox in the River Oaks District has marble dressing rooms with tony Kiehl's products, and a chic spa with services open to the public, with an appointment.

According to the American Massage Therapy Association consumer surveys, in July 2015, 19 percent of women and 16 percent of men reported having a massage in the past 12 months.

Many Houstonians are seeking such services as stone therapy massage, reflexology, body bronzing, teeth whitening, lash extensions, and waxing in order to look and feel their best.

Equinox offers all of the services, as well as signature treatments including the $175 24K gold facial and "Caviar Indulgence" facial "infused with roe extract, marine DNA, collagen and quince extract.

The Venetian Nail Spa, also in the district, offers an experience that is not as much about unusual treatments as a unique, tranquil and relaxing atmosphere - in contrast to the clinical and often pungent experience generally associated with nail treatment.
